Who Will Take the Crown?
It’s a tight race between this season’s top three queens:
- Nymphia Wind, 27, from Taiwan/New York
- Plane Jane, 24, from Boston
- Sapphira Cristál, 34, from Philadelphia
“Sapphira is what’s needed in this crazy world to represent and advocate for the drag community,” argued one fan online. “She has all the beauty, uniqueness, talent, etc.”
However, others are rooting for Nymphia. “Nymphia was good, but I would think that it is more about what happens with the community AS A WHOLE!”
A Historic Season
Season 16 has been groundbreaking, with Sapphira Cristál as the first Philadelphia queen to make the finale since the show began in 2009.
“There’s something about Philly,” Sapphira told CBS News. “The energy here is palpable. It truly makes you feel like you’re part of something.”
Amid a troubling rise in anti-drag legislation and threats against performers, Sapphira asserted:
“If we are to call ourselves the land of the free and the home of the brave, then we must be brave enough to allow individuals to express themselves through art, regardless of its form.”
